Okay, so here I am. In Chicago. Well, Hyde Park really -- it's about a twenty-minute bus ride south of Chicago proper. So what should you know? Everyone seems to wear sandals here -- Elise can confirm this. I went to see some bands play in the U of Chicago cafeteria the other night* (forgot the drinking age was 21 = no booze, only pop -- oops, soda) and saw this rocker guy in a black leather jacket and jeans and -- yes -- sandals. What up? Anyway. This isn't supposed to be a fashion blog. I haven't really figured out what kind of blog it will be (this is important, after all) so until then, I'll just sort of catalog some things.

Really excited tonight because a) I am going to buy a new laptop (just a iBook, just a put-put)and b) found some comics at a used book store: Rick Altergott's Doofus Omnibus (which I am preparing to, once I finish reading it, name as my favorite comic of all time) and two Hate! collections. (Also, I got an issue of Brunetti's Schizo the other day. It's totally perverse/hateful!)

So the archictecture here is pretty amazing. Everywhere you look there's an amazing building or structure. The landscaping is pretty rad too. Hyde Park is home to the Museum of Science of Industry, which is gargantuan. You know what's weird though? The graphic design seems kind of shitty. And by graphic design I refer to -- in this case -- the design of show posters and stuff. You know how when you go into Rotate or Soundscapes and you see a poster and, even if you were going to go to the show anyway, it just looks so good and you want to get one and go see that band and everything? Well, here they haven't seemed to have moved beyond just photocopying a picture of the band on flourescent paper. So again, what up Chicago?

As you may know, I had a difficult time disentangling myself from Toronto. I hope I'm not hating on Chicago more than is expected because of this. We'll see.

What else?

Uhh, more later I guess. I have to see if I'm actually able to post this.

*Miss Alex White and the Red Orchestra, namely. They're great, on In the Red, check them out. Also, there was this other, pretty bad, punk/rock and roll band. They had some funny lyrics that were like, "Fuck you, Sea and Cake!"
